MATTHEW SCHIEK MEMORIAL FUND..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Matthew Schiek Memorial Fund Matthew Schiek was an original member of our Freehold Regional HS District hockey family. Matthew played on the first Howell Rebels team in 2009. He helped lead the Howell Rebels to the Shore Conference Dowd Cup in his first varsity season. Matthew died tragically on February 14, 2015. He was a junior at the Commonwealth Honors College of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. His passions were music, guitar and hockey. People were instantly drawn to Matt's sense of humor, kind heart and generosity. Matthew's friends and roommates at UMass all consider themselves honored to have spent time with such an amazing young man and wanted to find a way to memorialize him. With his passion for hockey, Matt's family suggested the Regional Ice Hockey Association as a way to exemplify his willingness for giving and caring. Donations were collected and a very generous donation was made to Regional Ice Hockey Association to establish the Matthew Schiek Memorial Fund. All of Matt's friends, coaches and teammates at Howell HS and the RIHA family are deeply saddened by his loss. Regional Ice Hockey Association is honored to have been given the opportunity to help students stay on the ice in Matthew's memory.
